You may use certain chemicals to maintain safe pH levels of pool water. However, these chemicals are not sufficient to get rid of microscopic particles which though not visible to the naked eyes can lead to health issues. There are three main types of pool filters which include sand filters, D.E filters and pool filter cartridges. However, pool filter cartridges have become the most preferred choice of pool owners over the years.

So, what makes these filters so popular among the pool owners? In cartridge pool filters, a cartridge is present inside every filtration devices. The size of the cartridges has larger surface area than the sand filters. Consequently, they do not clog up quickly and therefore ensures better performance.

These pool filters come with replacement cartridges, you will now be able to replace the old cartridges with a new one as and when they become clogged with impurities. Moreover, you will also be relieved from the hassle of cleaning the filters. However, these pool filter cartridges have low maintenance and are extremely economical and do not burn a hole in your pocket as and when there is requirement of a change.

You need to take care of few things before cleaning a cartridge swimming pool filter. The first thing you need to do before cleaning a cartridge filter is turning off the main circuit breaker. Next, release all the pressure from the system by opening up the pressure relief valve.

Next, you need to drain the filter with water. For this you need to unscrew and remove the drain plug from the filter housing. You can now open up the filter housing with great care once all of the pressure is released and water drained off from the filter.

You can now remove the dirty cartridge from the housing and clean the cartridge pleats with a garden hose to rinse out as much dirt as possible. After proper cleaning of the cartridges, you need to carefully re-install the clean filter cartridges inside the filter housing.

Finally, before restarting the pool equipment, relieve the pressure by opening the pressure relief valve.
