subject: Select Work Which You Like [print this page]

A few years back I was eating a lunch with my friend, Sam, but I then realized sheshe looked particularly down and depressed. I asked her if perhaps there was something wrong, to which she then said to me why, and said she genuinely disliked her career and couldn't get herself together to go back to work . At the time I'd met with her she had been employed within service industries for the past four years and was finding her job tedious and very uninspiring.

I then asked her if perhaps she had been looking for alternative job opportunities and she mentioned she didn't have any ideal about what sort of occupations she wished for. I suggested that she think about using a career test and see exactly what type of jobs are suggested . She agreed to take the plunge take a test to see what the results would be.

After taking the assessment, she found she was basically most fitted towards a vocation within the finance field, specifically in sales manager. She then did a bit of investigation into possible training programs and made the decision to apply to a university degree able to be completed with part-time study.

After a very long application process which included Three selection interviews, she received a notice via mail informing she'd been approved to start the course. This was rather confidence building when considering that just 30 individuals had been approved or accepted out of lots of potential applicants.

Recognising that she would however need a job to coverher expenses, she contacted a few friends and contacts to inform them all of her change of career course and desire to find jobs more related to her brand-new career path. Fortunately, by way of a friend of one of her friends she was able to secure an administrative type role with a big insurance firm.

There has already been almost three years after she commenced her study course. In the course of that time she has gained very good practical experience within business she began employment at a couple of years ago and she's already been told by way of her manager that they will look to promote her directly into a more seniorjob which she is very keen on as soon as she nears completion of her study.

Since changing her career path, it is clear to our mutual friends she has ended up a entirely different and a lot more happy person. She is no longer anxious and depressed about going to work . Today, she looks forward to each new work day and is actually delighted regarding the options ahead of her. She is a much more content today and of the opinion that she's discovered her ideal career and is relieved to be finally pursuing a career [pathway that she enjoys.

Now a question for you, if you are dissatisfied in your job just how do you discover a satisfying occupation?

Give some thought to the following analogy:-

Career dissatisfaction usually fosters depression. Unhappiness is just like darkness. Darkness is the absence of light. Therefore to uncover pleasure you will need to turn toward the light.

This requires locating a thing that will light you up as well as allow you to connect to your true character.

Why not try this exercise:

Write your five items or things that make you light up' as soon as you think about them.

Some possible examples may involve socialising and meeting new people, sporting interests, listening or playing music, viewing or making art, horticulture, wildlife, languages, playing with your kids, website design, dancing, writing, cooking, health and fitness, houses, antiques and travel.

If you are uncertain what exactly you really get enjoyment and satisfaction from, answer these questions:

a) What sorts of books and magazines do you find interesting and why exactly?

b) If you could possibly attend a seminar on on any subject at all, what would you choose it be?

c) If cash was no barrier and you could do what ever career you want, just what exactly might you do?

Bear in mind this particular quote:

Successis not the real key to joy and happiness. Joy and happiness is the key to success. If you ever enjoy what you choose to do, you are likely to be successful."
