Mother Nature can be cruel to your home's roofing and siding. Some examples of damages that are inedible are: the curl shingles due to sunlight, crack or missing shingles due to heavy winds, moisture can cause roof leaks during the summer and can add thousands of pounds of ice and snow during the winter.

Then there are unexpected catastrophes that occasionally can happen. For example, a storm drops a branch tree on the gutter of the house, depending in your area, there might be tornados, hurricanes or ice storms and snow storms. At the end small repair will always need to be done and there some repair that you can do and other that it will be best to hire a professional to do it.

The first step to inspect the roof for any damages. Remember that a roof is a system that is compose of several elements that work together to provide three basic and essential functions that are: shelter, drainage, and ventilation. The roof covering and flashing are designed to shed water, directing downward. Air intakes and outtakes vents keep the fresh air circulation below the roof sheathing, preventing moisture and heat buildup.

When your roof systems develops problems like cracked shingles, incomplete ventilation, or damage flashing, all this can compromise it's may purpose that is to protect your home and if the damages are not repair promptly they can spread to other areas in your home.

Schedule routine inspections, at least once a year. inspect the interior as well as the exterior of the roof to spot problems. From the inside the attic, check the rafters and sheathing for signs of water damage. Symptoms will appear in the form of streaking or discoloration. A moist or wet area also signals water damage. In the outside of the home, walk around the roof of the house and inspect that there are o missing singles, lose nail, and that the seals from all the perforation caused by the pipe vents are not broken. Some, if not all, of these repair can be easily fix with some caulk, extra shingles and nails.

If you are not able do the annual inspections as recommended, research a professional contractor that can offer you a free estimate and if possible try and get it fix the sooner the better because the longer you wait the small damage can turn out to be a huge repair if is left unattended.
