subject: Don't Fall For The Timeshare Sales Process [print this page]

Many Americans have purchased timeshares over the past few decades. As a matter of fact, a great deal of timeshare developers have made a name for themselves through expansion over the last few decades. But, due to overwhelming dissatisfaction with the timeshare ownership community, many studies have been done to see if this growth was because of great business practices or victimization of people.

Unfortunately, these studies showed exactly what we were afraid of. Much of the growth in the timeshare development industry was not due to outstanding business practices. As a matter of fact, it was found that much of this expansion was due to forceful and aggressive sales processes. What surprised a great deal of professionals taking part in the studies was that some of these forceful tactics were outright blatant!

So what did they find?, you ask. Well they found quite a few things. Some of them very subtle with extreme psychological affects and some blatantly obvious but forceful. Here are a few things that consumers may have encountered during their timeshare sales process:

Tours that last forever: One of the more subtle but very forceful sales tactics that a great deal of timeshare sales representatives were found to use was having consumers take part in a long tour. Studies showed that consumers who took part in tours that lasted longer than 90 minutes felt more of a sense of urgency to purchase the timeshare without rational thought than those who took part in tours less than 90 minutes.

False sense of urgency: One of the more blatantly obvious aggressive sales tactics that a great deal of timeshare sales representatives were found using was creating a false sense of urgency. This is simple. All the sales representative has to say is If you don't buy today, you may lose out on this opportunity!. Now let's look at that statement. If you don't buy is a statement that insinuates force. You may lose has strong psychological affects because no one likes to loose. Finally, the word opportunity insinuates a great addition or change to ones lifestyle. Now by putting this all together we can see that one of the most common statements in the timeshare property sales process is a forceful statement that may trap consumers.

So, with these studies done, has anything taken place to stop the victimization of Americans? Well, yes. As a matter of fact, there have been 52 laws instated that regulate the sale of timeshare properties these days. Timeshare sales representatives who break these laws and the developers who employ them have very stiff penalties to face. But, where does that leave the people that have already been victimized by timeshare sales representatives?

There is a process that has been providing relief to thousands of people over the last few years called timeshare property elimination. This process legally deeds the timeshare property back to the developer and in some cases the developer will pay for losses associated with the property. Unfortunately however, where there is a demand, there is fraud so it is important to do your research before choosing any timeshare property cancellation company to work with!
