subject: Decorative String Lights Are Very Ideal Exterior Lighting To Enhance Any Event [print this page]

Whenever people think of string lights, they ordinarily think of a jumbled mass that you put up at Christmas. You may be pleased to know that string lights are ideal for decorating all-year-round and they can embellish your patio decor.

Compared to most low voltage garden lights, string lights ordinarily require 110 household current. Hence your foremost concern is to ensure you have an outlet available. On most patios, the outlet is right next to the door, but they may also be found on the railing. You want to design your setup so as not to have the power cord extended into any area where people may walk. If that is not possible, the next best thing to do is to ask an electrician to install a couple of extra outlets outside your house. Odds are that if you are sprucing up your outdoor areas, you will need the extra power for more lights as well as appliances or a TV.

When selecting ornamental string lights, be sure they are also intended for outdoor purposes. Some of them are not. Then, make certain that they are wired correctly so that the string will stay lit even if a bulb or two burns out. Most come with a small fuse, if so an extra one is great and some additional light bulbs as well.

When going for style, simple white decorative Christmas lights have offers a lot of possibilities. They can be woven around railings, strung up and around the underside of patio umbrellas, or just randomly hung above the outdoor area to create a star field effect. These will go with just about any decor and, when done just right, can look very classy.

Of course, decorative string lights come in an assortment of designs, from the traditional clear light bulb look to lights with novelty designs, for just about any event. Many novelty lights are basically standard white lights with some kind of plastic embellishment snapped around each light.

Most sets include information on the number of strings that can be linked together when sharing an outlet. These are usually conservative estimates but don't go too far beyond the recommended number of strings because it may trigger the breaker, or GFI to trip.

Adding ornamental string lights to your patio lighting display can make a lot of difference, at a very low cost!
