subject: What Do You Look For In A Hotel? [print this page]

What makes a hotel great? For different people, what makes the stay at any particular hotel great could be as varied as the customers themselves. For some it is the service, for some it's the amenities, and still for others it could be the unique atmosphere of the hotel. It can be the uniqueness of the building or the theme of the hotel or the uniqueness of the staff that will bring guests back time after time.

It could be the feeling of warmth and hospitality that you receive from the staff when you check in or it could be the exceptional service that you encounter after a problem comes up. Of course not everything can always go perfectly smoothly, so the way the staff reacts and takes care of a problem can display a good deal about the establishment and the culture of the hotel.

All of these things taken together can make or break an experience, however so can each individual part of the package. But what's important to one guests may not be that important to ten other guests, however getting all of the parts working together is the key to pleasing all of the guests. For their part, the guests have a job to do as well. It is their job to do their homework before making any reservations at a hotel. And in doing so, they are essentially telling the hotel that the things that they offer and show commitment in, is what they as a paying guest values in a hotel.

The hotels responsibility is to meet what they promise and in places that they can, exceed what the guests expectations are. It is a difficult proposition, but you see it done all the time in establishments that really pride themselves on their service. These are the successful operations, the ones that guests go back to every year. You do not have to expect this kind of service from small family run hotels or bed and breakfast type places.

There are plenty of large chains that may still offer the comfort and service that so many people find so valuable and want. But again, do a little research on the web and compare what the different hotels have to offer. You should be able to find something that you like, within your budget and with the features that you require and wish for.
