How to Burn a DVD With the HDD

If you've recorded a movie that you'd like to put on DVD, or if you have a great deal of files or other information that only a DVD can back up, burning a DVD straight from your hard drive is the best thing to do. The process itself is relatively simple, and only requires a few steps to finish.

Instructions

1

If you don't have a DVD drive already installed on your computer, Install the drive using the procedure outlined in the manual. Typically you'll install a driver or other software before physically connecting the drive.

2

If you do not already have DVD-burning software installed on your computer, download CD Burner XP freeware (see Resources) or other burning software and follow the directions to install it.

3

Place the DVD in the DVD drive and run the software. Be sure to select to burn a "Data Disc" when prompted if data is what you want to record onto your DVD.

4

Use the two windows in the program to choose files to be burned. Use the top window to find the files, then drag them to the bottom window to be burned.

5

After you have put the data you want onto the second window, Hold down CTRL-B to begin the DVD-burning process. Make sure to have the disc finalized so it can be used

Tips & Warnings

If the disc is DVD-R, it can only be burned once, so make sure you have the right contents on it before you burn it. Do not stop a burning in the middle of the process, or the disc will be unusable. Make sure the DVD you purchase will work with your DVD drive. Some DVD drives only work with a certain format, such as DVD-R and DVD-RW or DVD+R and DVD+RW. Consult your manual to determine format compatibility.
