subject: Reach More Customers With Online Marketing [print this page] In one of my previous job positions, marketing was included as part of my job description. I did not have any prior experience in marketing and did not have the slightest clue about what I should do for my company. I thought for sure that there was someone else more qualified for the job, but the task was indeed given to me.
Since I was unsure of how to do complete my marketing duties, I went to my manager for advice. He took me around to local business and showed me what to do. My manager first introduced himself and gave a little information about our company. Then, he asked if they were interested in working with us to help market both of our businesses. We would place advertisements in each other's locations as a way to reach a wider customer base. It was a simple way to advertise our business in the community and hopefully we might have a few more people hear about our business. After seeing my manager speak with a few local companies, it was my turn to be the one to speak. I was scared to approach other business owners, but seeing my manager talk with them so easily helped calm my anxiousness. I was able to meet a few of our neighboring businesses and let them know that we were willing to advertise for them if they could also help us advertise. The task worked fairly well, however, I did not enjoy chasing around our city speaking to people I had never met before. If I was to be in charge of marketing on a regular basis, I knew I had to find another way to do this.
After a researching other marketing strategies, I decided that online marketing is a great way to reach a large number of potential customers. Many of our customers are online these days and a large percentage of the population uses internet, whether it is on a home computer, work computer, cell phone, or tablet device. I knew that by seeking out online marketing, I could reach millions as opposed to the small number I would reach by marketing around in our city.
The lesson I learned is that we should never feel obligated to keep doing things the way they have been done in the past. Change is a good and often necessary part of life. Accept technology and enjoy the benefits it can bring.
