Can you walk around your house and see a lot of stuff that has not found itsown home or has outlived itsusefullness? Are there what you think are organized piles instead of things in their place? Do you have old magazines and newspapers that have not been sent to be recycled? Do you have rooms that you keep the doors shut so that when visitors come by you dont feel embarrassed?

Clutter is not uncommon. Continued clutter may mean that you are in need of some organizational tips to help control the look and feel of your home. Clutter is controllable so dont feel like you are lost at sea without a life preserver. The important thing to remember is that while things can pile up around the home, having a strategy to manage it is as simple as setting your mind to take control, continue to focus on what you can do to help manage it and believe that you can make a difference.

Make a Plan

Keep in mind that the clutter did not happen overnight. Ill guarantee that you did not make a plan to have clutter take over rooms in your home or your garage. Over time it just starts to accumulate until it seems overwhelming. Ill also guarantee that because you can make a plan to get more organized the clutter does not stand a chance. One thing to remember is the question of How do you eat an elephant? The answer of course if One bite at a time. Set realistic goals like a room or a closet or pantry. Once you tackle your first project and win over the clutter, celebrate the success. Take pictures of before and after to give yourself reminders of where that room was and how it looks when you are done. This is a very good way to reinforce your behaviour of keeping things organized.

Set Goals for Completion

This is a two-fold strategy. The first is to set a goal of which room or closet for example you are targeting to organize. The second is to set a goal of how long it will take you to complete the project. Although at first it may be difficult to determine how long a room or task should take but in time and by getting yourself efficient and effective with your use of time you will in a short time get pretty good at assigning a timeline to each task. Organizing your home will take a structured strategy and mind set. Keep yourself honest on your efforts for best results and long lasting success.

Stop Being Clutter Collectors

Just over time of living in a home you accumulate stuff. Clothes, toys, plastic containers and all sorts of things over time find their way into the home, sometimes never leaving even after their use has long since gone. Having an organized home means that all that live in the home need to be on the same page and willing to help each other and the home become more organized. Be mindful of clothes that you no longer wear, toys that are never played with due to children growing up or perhaps the toys are even broken. Kitchens become magnets for containers with no covers for another example. Telling yourself to stop collecting stuff that will only clutter your home is easier to say and harder to do. Asking yourself before buying an item it you truly need it or just want it are good questions especially in these economic times.

Recoup Money or Give Away

Once you have begun the effort to regain control of your home from clutter you will find that you have quite a collection of items. Some of which may still have value for someone else. This may be a good time to recoup some of the money spent by having a garages sale or using some of the other online opportunities like ebay or Craigslist. Selling items online is pretty user friendly and nothing to be afraid of trying. If you dont want to mess with garage sales or recouping money is something you are not concerned about then take those items to places like Goodwill or St. Vincent DePaul, Salvation Army or perhaps your neighbourhood church. Recycling is not just for aluminium cans and glass bottles you can recycle all sorts of items. What a good feeling knowing that some other little boy or girl will be able to play with that toy or doll giving them smiles and memories of their own.
