subject: Save Money, Eat Well And Be Healthy With A Vegetable Plot [print this page]

The benefits of home gardening are well known to most of us. Fresh air, sunshine and exercise are among them. Growing our own food is something that is most satisfying , knowing that we will enjoy eating the fruit of our labors. The fact that it will be fresh, full of flavor and goodness and saving us money at the checkout will be a mega bonus. Small landholders can still enjoy the benefits of growing their own vegetables as even a small plot can contain most of a familys needs. Herbs and veges can be grown together as in tomatoes and basil. Potted vegetables are also an option for small spaces.

The first step is to consider where in our garden we will create our vegetable plot. Where there is ample space in your yard to grow a lot of vegetables, then planning the right location for each vegetable item will not be a difficult task. The garden can be either ground level or built up, saving bending for those with problem backs. Once the site has been decided the groundwork begins, removing grass and digging over the soil. Where certain additives are required as a result of soil testing, then they must be added together with a considerable amount of manure. There are numerous landscaping experts who can assist you in performing the right procedure for vegetable gardening. Plant your vegetables in their sections, paying attention to each one's particular needs for shade, sun or water. Herbs and vegetables can be grown together as well, as in tomatoes and basil. Mulch well to keep the weeds down, and voila! You will soon be seeing the results of your work, reaping the benefits by not paying the soaring prices at the supermarket, not eating genetically modified foods, and enjoying health and flavoursome food.

Another way of growing our own vegetables where space is limited is in boxes or pots on patios or in outdoor rooms. It wont be difficult to get yourself a good supply of home-grown vegetables if you give your plants ample amount of nutrients, water and sunshine. It is so easy to do and has so many benefits for us all, we should all be making it our aim. Whichever way your vegetable garden fits into your landscape, there is nothing like the taste of your own fresh, nutritious and tasty food to boost your health and spirits.
