subject: Tips For Forensic Photography [print this page]

Forensic photography, also referred to as crime scene photography, is a branch of digital forensices. For example, well-designed Dell digital forensics, the act of producing crime scenes in the form of images using photography for carrying out investigations and presenting as evidence in the court.

The first forensics photography is said to have been taken in Belgium and Denmark back in the 1800s. This was mainly taking photographs of inmates for the purposes of documentation. As time went by and technology got better, governments started using photographs for identification together with other information.

In relation to crime scene photography, Alphonse Bertillon is said to be the first person to have taken photos of a crime scene. He made shots from different angles, heights, position of the bodies and objects then documented this as evidence.

Depending on where you are, you may need a college education to become a forensic photographer, since this is a highly specialized field and the techniques applied are not the same applied to other forms of photography. All the same, I have some few tips that you can use to produce perfect photos for forensics.

1. Take time and have a look at the work of great photographers. Take note of the color, size and distances from which the images were shot. Don't ask me where the pieces can be found, just google it and you will find more than enough to begin with.

2. Do not contaminate the crime scene. Make sure everything is as you found and untouched. The objects can only be removed after replacing them with tags.

3. When taking shots, make sure you are steady and still, any shots with pixilation may be rejected in the court.

4. Take shots from different directions, angles, distances from the object and the surrounding. Remember this is all about evidence, so you need all the details in hand for proper investigations.

5. Make a check list. Come up with a list of what you need and have them in hand so that you don't end up in a fix. One can easily forget simple things like camera batteries, lens caps and films, even though they may look as essentials. An additional camera would be great, just in case.

The job opportunities for forensic photographers are growing, so taking this career can be a wise idea, since it is a high paying job. A good photographer can make up to $60,000 yearly. While others are doing photography for fun, you are making money as well as having the fun.
