subject: Drive Your Devices To A Safer Place. [print this page]

When we think about device drivers, do we have any kind of picture in front of our eyes? I dont think so. Well, it is quite obvious why. These drivers, they are simply not visible. They exist only in virtual reality. Actually, most people when thinking about Information technology imagine two basic things software and hardware. Guess what? They are absolutely right. Hardware part is represented by your PC and a variety of peripheral devices, such as: scanners, printers, sound cards, video adapters, network adapters, motherboards, external HDDs, external optical drives, monitors, keyboards, mice etc

In a way, you can say that hardware is the body of Information technology (IT). Since IT was invented by humans, there had to be at least some similarity with us. So we decided that in order to work, all these pieces of metal, plastic, and some other materials, will not work without a soul, or software to be more exact. CEO of all the software in one PC is, of course, the Operating System (OS). Without it computer memory would be lost, and all the processes and everything what is happening inside would be in complete chaos.

Still, everything is interconnected in this amazing world of computer technology, so OS cannot work alone. It needs to be linked to hardware in order to control it. Now, we are coming back to drivers. These pieces of software are helping OS to establish and maintain connection with its body (hardware), so it can feel alive, breathe and give commands. Aha, says the OS, after you installed all necessary drivers, This is the printer, and this is the mouse. Finally I understand why mouse cannot print anything, and why moving printer all around is pointless.

Of course, it wont hurt if you are informed about what kind of operating system your PC is using, or if you read some specifications written by the manufacturers of the devices you just bought. For example, you can try to install your Soundmax audio driver for Windows XP on your Linux system, but it just wont work. Your PC will just complain, reporting some errors. So, again, get some information from the relevant sources before you start downloading drivers. In most cases, manufacturers are providing relevant drivers on a CD along with purchased device. But, this is not the end of the story. Manufacturers are constantly working on improving the performance of their devices. They are not doing it by just making changes in the hardware area, but also by updating drivers and other software on a regular basis.

IT market is a great battlefield. Names like Intel, ASUS, Microsoft, nVIDIA, Toshiba, Epson, Acer, Hewlett Packard, IBM, and many, many others are constantly competing in this tough game- Who will create the best product and win the affection of the audience. We should not disappoint them, but cheer them up for the tremendous job they are doing. And what is the better way to do that, but to stay in touch with newest technologies, be informed, update all the necessary software, have the latest drivers, and get the best out of our machines!
