subject: Professional Dress Code For Job Interviews [print this page] When we are in high school our teachers would introduce the several career fields so that we would take an interest in something. Ordinarily we blow them off up until senior year when it is time to take the SATs and pick a college. When we are done with college we begin the hunt for our dream jobs. The only way to get them is to show our future bosses that we have what they are searching for.
First impressions are crucial! If you go to an interview with a mini skirt or a five o'clock shadow than they will hear the things that you say. I don't care if you are a genius and meet all of their requirements. Numerous employers don't want somebody who looks like they would walk off the street.
The garments that you put on will speak a good deal to them and it can be the first thing that they find out about you. You will tell a good deal about people by what they wear. Women need to wear a professional pants suit or a skirt and blouse. Ensure that the colors are not too dramatic (no hot pink!) and that it is age appropriate. They don't have to be looking at your cleavage. Men need to be wearing a suit and tie.
The hair needs to be combed straight and gelled if it would help. Men have to groom their beards and mustaches and have absolutely no shadows at all on their face unless it is shaved and looks like you are growing it out. Women have to be careful about the amount of makeup that they put on. Too much will tell them you are attempting too hard and not enough will make you appear drained or rundown.
Any resume or other certifications that you bring with you must be in a specific place that is easy to get to. Attempt to buy a leather portfolio or briefcase. This looks professional and you will find that it helps when at work.
