subject: How To Specify The Route For Your Shipment With A Courier [print this page] Remember when you were growing up and your big brother overshadowed everything you two did together, when he allowed you to come along at all? He handled what we now call the distribution logistics of the outing. If you went to the Cineplex, he picked the movie; if you went for a hamburger, he picked Burger King or McDonalds. And you knew, absolutely knew, that you could pick a better place for a meal and a better movie than he did.
It can be the same with your courier services. We have been delivering packages of all shapes and sizes for a good long time, and we probably know more about the shipping business than most customers do. We have, over the years, found the quickest and most efficient routes for carriers, the best way to arrange packages in a van, and the best times of day for our drivers to avoid traffic jams and undue congestion.
But we believe in something your big brother probably did not, that the customer (you) is always right. So we are happy to allow you, any time you wish, to select the specific route your carrier takes to make your deliveries.
Because if there is one thing all couriers who stay in the business a good long time learn, it would be that, even though we have a pretty huge database of delivery knowledge, we do not know everything. You, as our customer, might have a preplanned route to make two or three or four deliveries that will save us all time, gasoline and wasted man hours. We are always prepared to listen to our customers, and follow their own plans for delivery.
If we feel we can make the delivery more efficiently or cheaply than your plan allows, we will discuss this with you, and see if we cannot point out some money-saving re-routing that will be advantageous for all parties. If there is a disagreement, we always, always, defer to the wishes of the customer. You are, after all, the reason we exist, and your wishes and instructions are the ones we will follow. Courier services are just that, based upon service, and we are here to serve you, not dictate or overrule. If we both get an education in distribution logistics, so much the better, your knowledge is improved, our business is improved.
So never hesitate to ask about delivery routes. Unlike your big brother, we recognize you may have a better idea.
