subject: Choosing the right laptop for your use [print this page] I have been buying a laptop myself latelyI have been buying a laptop myself lately. There are numerous manufacturers and different options. I have done a lot of research. I will write about my findings.
Processor - there are new Intel processors on the market. They are called i3, i5 and i7. For a standard user this is confusing. You can say for normal home, office, web usage i3 processor is more than enough. There is also an option of core 2 duo processor which is older Intel processor, but its better to buy new one if you can. For gaming use the best choice is i7.
Graphics - if you are not a game player then integrated graphic card is more than enough. You will be able to watch your favorite movies, youtube movies without any problem. If you wish to play games on your laptop these discrete graphics will be needed, but they cost a lot more than integrated.
Hard disk - the newest hard disks are SSD disks, which dont use magnetic layers. They are made from flash memory and are extremly fast. They are costly and they have limited lifespan. Cheaper option is 7200 rpm hard disks which are fast enough and offer good price to value ratio. Cheapest option is 5200 rpm disk which will give you satisfying experience.
Screen - you can choose from 2 different types of screens. They are all LCD screens ones are so called mat screens and other glossy screns. Glossy screens have a disadvantage when you use them in bright conditions, because you can hardly see on them. But they also have advantage of better picture than mat screen. Screen sizes vary from 10 inch to up to 17 inch. It depens what you will use your laptop for. If you travel a lot maybe a 10 inch screen is for you, but if you watch movies you will decide for 17 inch screen.
Ram - there is not much to say about ram but you will experience smooth working with more than 2gb of ram. So make sure you buy a laptop with at least that amount
Battery - bateries vary on their cell size. The bigger the cell size longer the battery lasts. Choice of processor impatcs greatly on your battery time. Notebooks can last up to 6 hours. Gamer laptops can last on battery maybe up to 2 hours.
I hope this short guide helps you choose the right laptop for you
