subject: Dont Expect A Frosty Reception When Sending Goods To Finland With A Proven International Courier [print this page]

Anyone who needs to send a parcel to Finland reliably and efficiently wont be frozen out if they turn to a reliable international delivery service supplier.

Finland has reaped the benefits of being a prosperous and highly stable country, and during the last century underwent a remarkable transition from an economy based largely on farming and forestry to having a highly efficient industrial base.

This has helped the country achieve a similar level of output to much larger economies, such as Sweden, the Netherlands and Belgium. Its ability to produce high-quality manufactured goods, and to find receptive markets for its rich natural resources, such as timber and hydro-electric power, have enabled the country to amass one of the healthiest fiscal positions in the world. However, in common with many other developed countries, it faces the challenge of providing for an increasingly elderly population.

Exporters find Finland a magnet because it is relatively free from regulation and red tape. They also want the prestige which comes from dealing with some of the worlds best-known high-tech companies, a sector in which Finland is especially strong.

The country still has a large and very strong industrial base, which is responsible for employing one-third of the total workforce. Shipbuilding, other engineering disciplines, mining, forestry, telecommunications, electronics and metalworking are all sectors in which the country enjoys a strong international reputation.

Aside from the large mainland, Finland comprises nearly 180,000 islands and an even larger number of lakes. With more than 85 per cent of the country covered by forests, it is unsurprising that it is such an important producer of timber and many associated by-products.

The extremes of temperature experienced in Finland, together with the fact that the country comprises a mass of mainly small islands, represents a challenge to businesses which wish to export their goods there.

This is also a major reason why so much development has been concentrated in the southernmost third of the country.

Finland benefits from an extensive and well-developed road network, whose maintenance is paid for from the countrys high road and fuel taxes. International traffic mainly arrives through Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport, which is well served by cargo airlines from other parts of Scandinavia, while the national carrier, Finnair, also operates regular freight routes between Helsinki-Vantaa and New York, Hong Kong and Seoul, South Korea. Total freight and parcels traffic loaded and unloaded at the airport rose by nearly 30 per cent in 2010, with international freight by far the biggest contributor to this growth.

The above figures demonstrate the growing importance of Finland to many multi-national companies. They depend on highly efficient and reliable international delivery services to get their goods into the Finnish market, and so too can any other ambitious business.
