In some cases it happened right after the industrial revolution. That is why the economy of the city where college town is situated is closely connected with the college activity. Moreover, it is strongly supported by the college structure which may include various organizations. The list of such sub-departments is long enough. It includes university hospitals and clinics, various laboratories, libraries and printing houses. Moreover, business organizations, student rooms, dining halls, students' unions and societies, various academic festivities also belong to this number. Frankly speaking, the history of the European city is often closely connected with the history of the particular university itself. A lot of European college towns have not only been places for scientific research and educational process. They also are centers of social, political and cultural impact on people throughout many years. The examples of such towns include Bologna, Heidelberg, Pisa, or Poitiers.
