subject: Shakira And Rogers Waters To Offer Luxury Caribbean Holidays In The Bahamas [print this page] Pop singer Shakira has splashed out on a Caribbean island with Roger Walters from Pink Floyd.
The two musical artists have entered a joint venture which will see the development of an upscale resort on an island in the Bahamas and will provide top luxury Caribbean holidays for millionaire travellers.
The pair has purchased the $16 million Bonds Cay island which is situated north of the Bahamas and 125 miles off the east coast of Florida. The island boasts five main beaches and three bays, three salt pond lakes and a number of beautiful waterfalls.
The 34-year-old Colombian singer and the 68-year-old bassist and singer are hoping to "reinvent the concept of tourism" by building luxury holiday homes which will include private beaches, plus several luxury Bahamas hotels.
Shakira and Rogers are also planning to build an artists retreat which will feature galleries, artists-in-residence and a programme that will offer semester-long sabbaticals for high end travellers enjoying intimate Caribbean holidays on the stunning island.
Miami-based investor, Arturo Rubinstein, is involved in the project and said: "It's not about having 200 speedboats and an 18-hole golf course. I would say it is an explosion of the senses. It's a concept more related to art and culture."
Vice President of Caribbean real estate brokerage H.G. Christie, John Christie, commented: "It's a beautiful island. It's got some height to it, which means as you build up, you get better views. There is the ocean to the east of it so you've got reefs and views of turquoise water. On the other side of the island is limey, light turquoise water because it is shallow. It's a great fishing area."
The development could see an increased number of celebrities and multi-millionaires taking holidays to the Bahamas in the near future. The Bahamas are already a popular destination with showbiz stars and current residents who regularly enjoy Caribbean holidays at their privately owned properties include, Sean Connery, Nicholas Cage, Johnny Depp, Tiger Woods, Bill Gates, David Copperfield, Mariah Carey and John Travolta.
During holidays in the Bahamas, tourists can relax on pristine white sand beaches; explore the Lucayan National Park on Grand Bahama; dine at traditional restaurants and experience Bahamian cuisine; or snorkel and scuba dive beneath the surface of the turquoise crystal clear ocean waters and swim with sharks, manatees, dolphins, frogfish, angelfish, starfish and turtles.
