subject: Are Satellite Tv Sports Packages Taking Over Your Life? [print this page]

While that may sound like a silly question, but if you take a look at all the satellite TV sports packages now, it may be one you need to think about. With everyone loving at least one sport whether it's NASCAR, golf, American football, soccer (which many call the "real" football), cricket or even rugby, there are channels that cover it all. There are channels devoted specifically to a single sport like the Golf channel, MLB Network and NFL Redzone so sitting down and watching your favorite sport 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year (366 on Leap Year) is actually possible.

Even if you're like the rest of us who have to work for a living which cuts time out of the sports watching day, for the truly fanatical amongst us, not only do you have the ability to watch the sport of choice at home on your big screen TV but if you've got the right equipment you even have the ability to watch your favorite satellite TV sports package on a computer connected to the 'net or even your smart phone. That means you don't have to worry about how your fantasy players are doing or what the scores are, you can actually see what's going on while you're working, or supposedly working. All it takes is a way to connect to the internet and you can be watching your favorite team playing baseball or keeping an eye on how the cricket match is playing out.

Even though they may admire your dedication to your favorite team, friends and especially family may not appreciate your fervor at three A.M. when you're watching Manchester United on your sports package on satellite TV and the ref is handing out a red card to your favorite player. Another issue can come up when your boss catches you watching basketball for the umpteenth time instead of answering sales calls like you're supposed to. He may not understand just how important that particular game is, especially if he's not a part of the office pool.

Your pastor or preacher can't help but forgive you for missing church when he knows how much dedication you have to seeing your favorite golfer on the links on Sunday morning. With the Golf Channel on your TV sports package on satellite, he may even come over after services to watch the rest of the game with you. He may not totally appreciate the fact that you don't make it to church all the time, but when he's sitting in front of your 60" HDTV watching the final putt at the U.S. Open, he'll appreciate that for sure.

If anyone tells you that watching all these sports games and matches all the time is destroying your life, all you have to do is sit them down to watch some drag races or ESPN Game Plan and they'll be just as hooked as you are. The best thing to happen to TV for real sports fans may very well have been satellite TV sports packages.
