subject: Why Exterminators Need To Control The Bed Bugs Population [print this page] Last year NYC suffered the worst plague of bed bugs in recorder history. The small parasitic insects laid thousands upon thousands of eggs and infested homes throughout the five boroughs. Although the epidemic has not been reported by the news channels there are still millions of the small bloodsucking insects living in the city. Called bed bugs because they are nocturnal and have a habit of hiding out during the day; most victims of the biting pests wake up to find that they have been bitten when they were asleep. Feeding on the blood of a human host the insects can go from weeks between meals. Choosing to hide in a den of their making the bed bugs NYC residents have been dealing with only attack when it is nighttime.
As the female insect can lay as many as 5 eggs per day, that hatch in one to three weeks the infestation that struck the city a year ago is still a very credible threat today. Jumping from host to host in search of blood the traveling insect thrives in the public places where people are. Usually hiding in hair or on clothing the bugs are transferred through a number of different ways. Public transportation for instance provides a way for the insect population to be carried from someone's head to the seat of bus, train or taxi. Movie theaters are another place where an insect might be carried in by one unsuspecting individual and hitch a ride home with someone else.
Although the bite of the bed bug is not contagious, nor does the parasite carry any known diseases it can be very irritating. Injecting its saliva like a mosquito that prevents the blood from clotting during a meal, the bed bug leaves a mark that is usually red in color and raised. In some case the bite might resemble a rash and be just as irritating to the victim who wants to scratch at it.
Even though great lengths have been taken to eradicate the population of blood sucking parasites, their numbers are still strong and New Yorkers are warned to bring in a pest control specialist to clear their home of the bugs that are hiding from view. With the ability to multiple quickly and the weather being right for breeding there will most likely be a relapse in the number of bed bugs NYC residents are plagued by again this year. However with the help of an extermination company the population can be controlled and eliminated if everyone that is bitten does their part to help rid the city of the small blood sucking insects.
