subject: How To Improve Your Garage Door Sensors [print this page]

The frequency of a garage door opener is as good as that used by huge chunk of radio systems, say pentagon officials. Due to high frequency of the military radio signal, the door signal is hampered preventing it from opening. This has been a recurrent issue with automatic door openers and to get it fixed many users have to shell money from their pockets too

The manufacturers' group advises the consumers so opt for a manual repair of the door that will burn their pockets by $60 Consumers may have to pay around $120, if they choose to make use of professional services for fixing the door.

To opt for a manual repair it becomes necessary for the user to understand the problem. The first thought a consumer has is to replace the battery when the opener stops operating.

Even without having it installed, a running a new opener can leave you poorer by approximately $200 However there is a remarkable difference in the opinion of government and industry officials regarding the effect of this.

The effect of the frequency is being termed as limited by the government however, the industry personnel differ and demand for more details.

Refuting the fears of the industry, personnel from the National Telecommunications department stated that it's only spread across a small radius The time during which the system is triggered for startup has the maximum effect

The opener can be re used after waiting for a brief while. Since the effect of these waves is only visible around 10 miles of the base, it isn't causing too much trouble For up to 50 miles from the base, there is bound to be interference said the technical director.

The chief information officer claimed that the radio sets at the base have similar frequency with close to 50 million garage door openers.

Besides the damages to the door opener, it also puts the consumers at risk, if they forget the house keys.

Military bases are quite used to the frequency used for the new fangled garage door openers. Garage openers have recently started to work on such high frequency.

Only devices running on low power can be used at such high frequency as stated by the US law. Operation of door openers becomes easy at such high frequency as it ensures easy transmission.

It was quite easy to use these frequencies as military did not use it until some years The devices used by military are not quite influenced by the door openers running on low power.

It's not the frequency but the increased usage that leads to flooding of air waves and hence causes disturbances. Communication devices are inevitable and the number will only increase For better and effective communication, the military started using these new fangled radio sets recently.

The garage door openers share their frequency with at least 125 bases. To facilitate emergency communication and networking, the radio sets are also being employed at Fort Hamilton and Walter Reed center.

The process is in the pipeline and talks are on between the Defense dept., Federal communications commissions and dept. of commerce.

The communities based near the military area are being informed by base commanders to make them aware of the interferences. If the same frequency as that of door openers is avoided, the issue can be resolved. Another way is to design door openers with a different frequency.
