subject: Don't Let The Winter Blues Restrict Outdoor Play And Learning [print this page]

Were reaching that time of the year again, when the leaves are falling and the winter months will slowly be upon us. Many establishments will see this as a time to bring all their outdoor lessons and activities inside, however discovering and exploring the changing season is a great excuse to get outdoors, have some fun and get muddy! Some educational resources suppliers have a fantastic array of outdoor products that are fun, creative and entertaining but at the same time help children learn and develop, plus a selection of weather proof clothing so there is no excuse for staying indoors.

On those terribly cold and windy days when outdoor play isn't possible, indoor activities can be just as engaging with the wide variety of games, activities, arts and crafts and creative resources available from some great educational suppliers.

At this time of the year (October and November), two great topics that schools can learn about are Halloween and Bonfire Night. This gives teachers and early years practitioners the opportunity to inspire and engage children by getting them involved in some fun, spooky and topical activities. Get your children dressing up as ghosts and witches, drawing spooky pictures, spooky face painting, making scary displays together and a whole lot more.

To celebrate Bonfire Night why not create your own Guy Faulkes or a colourful Bonfire Night display using crepe paper, colourful marker pens, vibrant paints, and multicoloured glitter for exploding fireworks shapes.

During these tough times when budgets are stretched, it is reassuring to know that some of the "one stop shops" for educational supplies and resources have been working hard this year to offer a wide range of creative, great value educational resources suitable for early years through to primary aged children.

They have managed to get the right balance between products that are fun to use (especially in the autumn and winter and if the weather is bad) but at the same time remain educational and engaging.

Seeing your children learning through play and having fun, and giving them a sense of achievement when creating colourful themed displays is wonderfully satisfying, so this Autumn fill them full of excitement and make it an Autumn to remember!
