subject: All You Need To Know About Tefl Courses [print this page]

One of the reasons why people sometimes avoid going through with teaching in another country is the amount of time it takes to get set-up and train. In many cases, people are wary they feel as though they will have to go 'back to school' for a long time to get a job that makes this transition worth their while. Although it is true that going 'back to school' and getting your Master's degree in English would get you a good job overseas, it is not necessary to make good money teaching English.

Training:

All you have to do is sign up for a TEFL program and you can take all of your courses online. This can be completed at your own speed, depending on how much free time you have. The majority of people finish their courses in four or five weeks, which means that you could be applying for jobs in about a month. Other people take over a year to finish their courses, the choice is yours.

Receiving support:

Another concern that some people are worried about when learning how to teach English is receiving the proper support. This issue arises when they do not know how to complete something involved in the course work and do not have the right tutorial support to solve the problem. If you take a solid TEFL program, however, you will be supplied with a tutor.

The tutor is available for your email questions daily, which helps you to get through any issues that you have. Even if you simply need to talk about whether or not teaching overseas is right for you, your tutor will speak with you about the issue and answer any questions that you have for him or her.

Assessment:

When you take a teaching course, you are assessed based on the quality of your written assignments and tests. If you are a borderline student, you could run into problems passing the course. In most cases, your tutor will ask for a second opinion if your skills do not seem good enough to become a teacher.

Keep in mind that all you really have to do is help non-English speakers learn how to speak English, so it is not all that difficult. As long as you language skills are relatively strong, you should not have any difficulty getting through the coursework. TEFL courses have been designed to give you the skills needed to succeed in teaching English as a foreign language.

Results:

After completion of TEFL courses, you will receive a certificate in the mail. You will be graded on a pass or fail basis. This certificate is sent out within 10 days of passing the course, so you won't have to wait long to receive your results.

Keep in mind that should you fail the course, you will be given the chance to resubmit your assignments and it will not cost you anything else. TEFL courses are about helping you succeed, with full support and guidance throughout.
