subject: 2012 Vw Passat Safety Features Earn The Iihs Top Safety Pick [print this page]

Volkswagen has stayed true to its reputation of passenger safety through the newly-redesigned 2012 Volkswagen Passat, which was recently named as an all-around "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Vehicles that are designated as a "Top Safety Pick" must earn good rankings in all four categories of vehicle safety testing including:

-Frontal Impact Testing

-Side Impact Testing

-Rear Impact Testing

-Roof Strength Ratings

The Volkswagen Passat received a "good" score in all of the above categories, and registered the highest ever roof strength rating for the model. The 2012 VW Passat was able to withstand a force equal to 6.3 times the car's weight, which easily surpassed the required 4.0 score for a "good" rating. To meet federal safety requirements, a car only needs to withstand a force of 1.5 times its own weight.

In addition to the updated exterior and interior styling, Volkswagen focused a lot of effort into improving the safety of the latest VW Passat. A reinforced front end is optimized to absorb a crash impact more effectively, helping to earn it high marks in frontal impact testing. Moreover, Electronic Stability Control is also included on the new 2012 VW Passat to help correct the car when a driver suddenly oversteers or understeers during an emergency, keeping the car smoothly on course.

An ABS braking system also provides controlled braking in the event of an emergency. Drivers also benefit from the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) that alerts you immediately when the air pressure in a tire falls above or below the recommended levels.

In addition to exterior safety features and engineering, the 2012 VW Passat also comes with added technologies to keep the driver focused and safe. A multifunction steering wheel allows the driver to manage audio, communication, and climate controls without the distraction of leaning over the dashboard. Additionally, Bluetooth technology provides a hands-free environment for streaming phone and media devices, which is a requirement for Orange County and California drivers.

The 2012 Volkswagen Passat Comes to Commonwealth VW in Santa Ana, California

Orange County fans can see the new VW Passat for themselves in Santa Ana, California. The 2012 VW Passat will be arriving in California in September, and Santa Ana and Orange County residents are encouraged to visit for a test drive. There is no better way to experience a Volkswagen than to test it yourself.
