subject: Exciting Games For Halloween [print this page]

Halloween parties with the family are not worth remembering without games. Both the children and the elders look forward to playing in between meals of the same night. The games make the celebration active and jovial. Although the theme is fright, it must remain to be a celebration for the family to take advantage of when it comes to being together.

One of the most popular games played by Americans during Halloween is the dunking or apple bobbing, an old game adopted in occasions other than Halloween, but keeps its identity for this particular celebration. In this game, pieces of apples are placed on a huge basin filled with water. The players should get as many pieces as they can from the basin using their mouth. In the end, the players get to wet their faces while spectators enjoy watching.

Hanging up a treacle is another exciting game for the family. This is done by hanging treacles or syrup-coated cones on freely swaying strings; the players need to consume them without using their hands. Not just vigorous, this game is often messy because of the syrup. Often in the end, the players with all the household members end chasing one another for the sticky mess of their faces.

Another popular Halloween game is the scavenger hunt. Although not entirely a Halloween game, this is often enjoyed in this occasion because of its resemblance to the Halloween treasure hunt. Both games involve searching for items, although in scavenger hunt, no clues lead to the items. The players are given a list of items they should get or take picture of from anywhere.

Aside from scavenger hunt, the family can also play divination. Although not exactly a game, divination is also a popular practice during Halloween. Traditionally, it is done by carving an apple in one long strip and throwing it onto someones shoulder. It is believed that the peel will form the first letter of the name of the persons future spouse.

Fortune-telling is also an exciting game, like the scavenger hunt. This involves cutting symbols and placing them on a platter. The player has to go to a dark room and place his hands on ice before placing it over the platter to get a symbol. The person to act as fortune-teller interprets the symbol as his future.
