subject: Do It Yourself Hair Extensions [print this page]

Not all hair extensions need to be professionally applied at the salon. There are much cheaper and much easier alternatives available for those who need a hassle-free way to instantly gain length and volume. What kind of hair extensions are we talking about? Do it yourself hair extensions, or clip-in hair extensions, as theyre also named. You can immediately boost your appearance with just a few clips.

With do it yourself hair extensions you get the natural type and the synthetic type. If youre searching for a natural look then go for the type that use 100 percent human hair. This might cost a bit more but its definitely worth it. With the synthetic type you wont get much styling freedom but theyre a great option for a costume party or a quick night out.

Do it yourself extensions that use real hair are much better for special occasions like weddings and formal gatherings, but you need to make sure of the quality of hair. The hair is divided into grades, with grade A being the highest quality. An example of a brand that uses this grade human hair is Easy Clips extensions.

Now with do it yourself extensions, its obvious you have to put them in on your own, so follow these quick steps to have fullness and volume in minutes:

First make sure your hair is clean and dry. Attaching do it yourself extensions on dirty hair will make the extensions greasy and the more you wash them, the less time they last.

Make a horizontal parting across your scalp just above your ears and secure the hair thats above the parting with a clip.

Pick up the first hair weft to attach and begin with the middle clip. Slip it onto your natural hair and snap shut. Check if the clip is firmly in place and continue with the clips on either side.

Take out the top part of your hair that has been tied up and make another horizontal parting 1 inch above the attached weft. Pin up the rest.

Attach another weft in the same way as the first. Repeat the steps for the rest of the application.

Continue making horizontal partings and attaching the wefts as you move up the back of your head.

Attach the narrower side wefts by making a horizontal parting above your ear and attaching the clips in the same way.

Use a mirror to check that no clips are peeking out.
