subject: Let The Sun Shine In [print this page] There are many ways to warm up or cool down that don't involve air conditioning, heating or extra layers. Trees can provide a lot of these functions on their own. How you wonder?
1. Trees can provide shading for your home:
An eco-sustainable way to keep your house cool during hot, summer months is to plant one, or several, big trees outside of the windows that receive the most sun. By preventing sun from getting into your office or home you will keep it cooler and keep distracting solar glare out of your eyes. Moreover, you will have something nice to look at, as opposed to a more obtrusive, unattractive structure.
2. Removing trees can warm up your home:
Of course if the above works, so too will its opposite. In other words, if you're finding that you'd like more sunlight to come into your home or workplace then you can have a professional come and remove obtrusive trees. At the very least they could come and cut back some of the branches and overgrown foliage. And this doesn't only apply to wanting more light for the inside of your home, it also applies to your outdoor space. If you have too much overgrowth in your garden for instance, you might not be getting as much sunlight as you like, or worse yet, subjecting your outdoor space to a lot of bird dung. Trimming back your trees will help solve both of these problems.
3. Shading your garden:
Of course if your garden has too much sunlight, so much so that you can't sit out in it for more than thirty summer minutes without suffering from heat stroke, you may want to have some trees planted. Once fully grown you can enjoy meals under them or a lie in your hammock while taking comfort in their shade and enjoying a nice breeze.
4. Planting colourful flowers:
Another way to make your garden a sunnier place (proverbially speaking) is to plant lots of colourful flowers. Daisies, tulips, sunflowers are all cheerful plants that will make your garden feel healthy, summery and alive. And of course the more beautiful it is, the more time you will want to spend in it.
As greedy human beings we tend to expect that the things we want will happen immediately. We crank up the heat as soon as we feel a little bit cold, or we blast the air if it gets too hot. Instead of wearing on the world's natural resources whenever you're feeling a little flushed, think about natural ways you can solve your problems long-term.
