It is a rule that Marty is never to go in the big house all by himself. The temptation of exploring all of the rooms of the big house was too much for Marty to resist. He has brought home lots of treasure he has found on his adventures. Marty dreams that one day he will leave his home in the wall of the big beautiful house and travel far and wide.
Jingles, Sparkle, Twinkle and Jolly, Marty's cousins just happen to be some of Santa's Christmas mice. Most people don't know it but the Christmas mice are Santa's official mail helpers. Marty came up with the idea to ask his cousins who help out with all the Santa lettersat the North Pole, to help him find a way to stay off Santa's Naughty list. Jingle's, a nice looking white and gray mouse, was always friendly as a young boy. Marty remembered years ago a family picnic. He and Jingles had fun playing ball together. Now Jingles works with Santa Claus to make sure all the mice across the world receive their personalized letters from Santa each year.
Marty got out his best paper and pencils. He was going to write a letter to JINGLES RIGHT AWAY. He would have to ask his Aunt Wilma for the secret address at the North Pole for all the Christmas mice. Marty updated Jingles on all his family members. The beginning of the letter flowed like any letter to someone you have not seen in a while. Marty asked about the weather at the North Pole and he wanted to know what it was like working for the real Santa. Next Marty got to the point of his letter. He needed advice on the situation he currently found himself in.
Marty wanted to know how to stay off Santa's naughty list. He hoped there was something he could write in his Santa letter that would help. No one in the house was looking when Marty added his Santa letter in with the rest of all the out going mail.
Jingles's letter came almost a week later. Everyone was excited about the letter that had come all the way from the North Pole. His family couldn't wait to see how Jingles and his family were doing. Marty disappointed his family when he announced that he would first read the letter in private.
Jingles impressed Marty by sending two letters. The first letter was one that Marty could share with his entire family. Jingles sent a picture of his family with Santa. The letter told Marty and his family what had been going at the North Pole, just basic things like the weather. The second one was the one Marty had been waiting on. It held the secret of how to stay off Santa's naughty list. Marty thought the Christmas mice must be very smart since Jingles thought to send two separate Santa letters.
In his letter Jingles explained the Christmas Mice were responsible for sorting all the letters that flowed in and out of the North Pole. Since the mice get to read all of the personalized letters from Santa
and to him they have a good idea what Santa might say.
Jingles told Marty that Santa only puts names on the naughty list when we do things we know are wrong again and again. As long as we try to do the best we can Santa will understand about the small mistakes we make. All Santa wants is for everyone to try their best and do the right thing. Jingles said Santa is as wonderful as we all imagined him to be.
Jingles said if we need him to he could send a nice list guide. But Santa believes that we all truly know in our hearts the difference between right and wrong. That is why Santa Claus doesn't get specific about how we should or shouldn't behave.
After reading Jingles's letter Marty was overflowing with joy. If all he had to do was be good he could always stay on Santa's nice list. He wondered if Santa would mind him making a few more secret trips to the big house
