subject: A Secret Santa letter From Marty the Mouse Made Santa's Nice List for 2010 [print this page]

After Marty the mouse was seen by Hailei the pretty little girl who lived in the big house. He hoped that he wouldn't end up on Santa's naughty list. Maybe if he explained the situation Santa would understand. He had never been on Santa's naughty list.

Marty liked to sneak off by himself and sometimes, like now, that could get him into trouble. He just loved to explore the world around him. His parents had told him several times to never go into the big house alone. He was only allowed in the big house if his parents or older brothers and sisters went with him.

The only reason Marty ever sneaks into the big house alone is to find things that will be helpful to his family. He knows it is wrong to disobey his parents, but it felt good to bring home things his family could use. Like the shavings from a big sharpened pencil Marty had once collected. His family built a fire using the shavings. The whole family stayed warm and cozy that night. He had brought home tasty crumbs by the dozens but this time he was bringing home something more wonderful than he had brought home before.

The last time Marty wondered off to the big house he was checking the little girl's room for bits of candy like he always did. He liked to share any candy he found with his family. On this trip he also wanted to scoop up some of the glitter the little had spilled into the desk drawer. Marty knew the glitter would make the Christmas tree at his house sparkle like it was full of magic.

Hailei decided to open the drawer at the same time Marty was looking for glitter. Marty froze because he was scared something awful would happen next. It turned out that Hailei was a nice girl. She talked to Marty about Christmas. Hailei explained all about why she thought getting personalized letters from Santa was the best part of Christmas. She showed Marty the special Christmas paper in the drawer she was getting out so she could write a letter to Santa himself.

Hailei wouldn't let Marty go back to his home without taking a package full of a variety of things. When he got home Marty showed his family the colorful strings and ribbons, cotton balls, buttons, candy, and the glitter. His family seemed disappointed despite the treasures he brought home. While he was at the big house talking to Hailei, his family was at home worrying about him. The look on his parents face told Marty that they were not happy he had broken the rule about going into the big house. Max, Marty's brother teased Marty that he would for sure be put on Santa's naughty list.

Marty tried to hide it from his sisters and brothers, but he worried he might have made Santa mad by disobeying his mom and dad. Marty would write personalized letters from Santa

with his family because it was a tradition but he would also write a secret letter late at night. He just wanted to make sure that Santa understood. He was only trying to help his family and have a little bit of an adventure. He hoped that Santa would understand.

But Marty didn't want to receive Letters from Santabefore anyone else. He knew that if he did they would all be asking what his letter said and they might even want to read it themselves. Then he remembered Santa's Christmas Mice, his official mail helpers. Marty's Aunt Wilma said the mice at the North Pole were cousins of cousins of his.

Relief washed over Marty now because he knew he could ask his cousins for help. Mice stick together like that. They could give him advice on how to stay on Santa's nice list. Marty had told his parents how very sorry he was for making them worry about him. Of course Santa would understand the situation. That night Marty drifted off to sleep with visions of Santa Claus, the North Pole, and genuine letters from Santa himself.
