It may take the shape of words or a visualization or both. You could try reciting a mantra such as: I am relaxed, or: I am able to do this! Or you could try seeing yourself looking and feeling great at your ideal weight. Or you could visualize yourself in a place from your past that you associate with making you feel very calm and relaxed.

While you have a strong sense of this feeling, use a physical action like pinching yourself in a particular place, or putting a specific finger and thumb together (it is important to choose one action and always use it for this technique to work) to anchor this feeling. If you repeat this exercise once or twice a day over at least week you will be well placed to evoke the required response whenever you need to.

After you have successfully anchored this response in your subconscious mind you will be able to use it in times when you feel under confident. This feeling can often cause people to over eat in various situations. If you are one of these people you can easily call up this feeling of confidence before you fall victim once again to the temptation of comfort eating. The trick is to catch the feeling in time before you end up with nothing but cake crumbs on your plate and a guilty feeling in your chest.
