subject: How Expensive Is Medical Specimen Delivery? [print this page]

Who knows about the delivery of medical specimens? Definitely not everyone, because it's not something we normally use on a daily basis. In fact, if you don't work in the medical field then this is a completely new subject. But, there's probably a reason why you are reading this. Found yourself needing information on the distribution logistics of the medical world.

Sending packages can be expensive and bothersome if you don't know which company to trust. This is even more of an issue when you are transporting cold packages or important drugs. After all, you don't want the precious cargo spoiling or ending up in the wrong hands. That might seem like a ill-based concern, but if you are a company starting out that distributes narcotics; let's just say some would pay a high price for them. This is what you really need to pay attention to with transport systems. Do they 'feel' like someone you should be in business with? What is they're policy on lost or damaged parcels? Do they have insurance that covers your shipment as well as they're vehicles and drivers?

Obviously, if they don't have any of that covered, you will need to reconsider your business ventures. The next thing to consider is, how do they work? Do you have to sign contracts and do they secure your items no matter what they are? Many of them work much like the postal services; you will package your item, let them know to pick up and there it goes. It depends on what company you are using, as each can be different but there are distributers that will allow one time transactions and others that prefer long term service. Some companies will even have temperature controlled vehicles and dry ice on hand at all times. These shipments may cost a little more due to the specifics regarding the transport, but they will ensure that you're specimen gets where it needs to go without being ruined.

So, you see, even if you had no idea what the distribution logistics of delivering medical supplies or specimens were, it's not hard to understand. If you suddenly found yourself needing to donate some part of you that needs to be taken special care of, there is much information out there and help concerning which companies to use. No matter the security or freezing measures, someone will be there to make sure the shipment makes it well and within time.
