The phenomenon called Manish Malhotra was unleashed on the celluloid when the designer was just 25 years old. His foray in to Bollywood was in the movie Swarg where he designed clothes for former miss-India Juhi Chawla. Now at 45, the name is synonymous with that of style and grandeur in the Hindi film industry. He is credited for revolutionizing the fashion landscape in Bollywood by visualizing a distinct look for the subject or character.

In his more than two-decades long career as a costume-designer he has clothed most of the leading ladies of the film fraternity. Right from the actresses of yesteryears such as Urmila Matondkar and Sridevi to the actresses that are currently ruling the roost such as Aishwarya Rai, Kareena kapoor, Kajol, Shilpa Shetty and their ilk.

Manish Malhotras collection has for the better part been the collection for female actresses. But he did attired a few leading men of Bollywood. Notable amongst them were King Khan and the Bollywood wonder-boy Aamir Khan. He can boast of designing costumes for various blockbusters such as Rangeela, where he transfigured Urmila Matondkar and transformed her in to a raging sex symbol. He was able to recreate the same magic with Karisma Kapoor and transformed her persona on-screen in the blockbuster Raja Hindustani.

Manish Malhotras sarees have been worn by almost all the leading ladies of Bollywood and more so in movies that turned out to be mega-hits. Not only this, Manish Malhotra has been associated with most of the blockbuster of the last two decades.

Manish Malhotras work has been generally appreciated by the celebrities and public alike and therefore he has been the recipient of several awards for best costume-designing. He is also the recipient of the coveted Indira Priyadarshini Memorial Award in lieu of his contribution towards the fashion fraternity.

In the year 1999 he was named as the most Stylish Designer at the Elle Style Awards.

With such good luck and success, Manish Malhotra decided to take the plunge and made his foray in to mainstream designing in the year 1998 with his clothing store- Reverie by Manish Malhotra. The store was a runway success and got rave reviews and he boasted of a clientele that included the likes of Avanti Birla, Rhea Pillai, Haseena Jethmalani, Tina Ambani and Tanya Godrej in addition to important members of the Indian NRI community. Manish Malhotras bridal collection has become so famous that he has done many wedding trousseaus for some of the reputed and wealthy families. His popularity got a further traction when he got the opportunity to clothe the king of pop-Michael Jackson for his appearance in New York. Michael Jackson was very much pleased with the young designer that he asked him to design his clothes for appearances in Munich, Germany.
