subject: What Are The Different Types Of Accessories For Cutting Cigars? [print this page]

You may have seen actors in old Western movies biting the ends of cigars off before smoking. While this technique will get the job done, it won't result in the best smoking experience. Hand-rolled cigars are finished off with a cap that protects the wrapper from unraveling and the cigar from drying out. The tip of the cap should only be cut just before you smoke the cigar. There are a variety of cutters that you can choose from, some of a higher quality than others. If the cigar is an expensive one, it is worth it to wait until you have a decent cigar cutter. You can certainly get the job done by using a sharp knife against a cutting board, but you will risk unraveling the wrapper of the cigar should the cut be uneven.

The guillotine cutter is one of the most popularly used cigar cutters out on the market. These cutters come in two different versions. One version of the cutter contains a single blade, while the other type of cutter features double blades. Many cigar experts highly recommend using the double bladed guillotine cutter as it provides a cleaner, more even cut when removing the cap. Some of these cutters come in a lighter/cutter combo, which is very convenient.

Another popular type of cutter being used is the V-cutter. These cutters are not typically recommended for people who are new to smoking cigars because if the cut is not made properly the blades can end up ruining your cigar. If the cut is not done right the end of the cigar will have jagged cuts, which detracts from the flavor of the cigar. This type of cutter is recommended for advanced smokers who have a lot of experience cutting the caps off of their cigars and can make clean cuts easily.

Some cigar smokers use cigar scissors to remove the cap from the cigar. This tool is also not recommended for novice smokers as it takes a lot of practice to master a good, clean cut. People who do not like to take their time removing the caps with these scissors end up with ruined cigars or cigars that do not taste as good as they are supposed to.

Test out different cigar cutting instruments to determine which one best suits your smoking style. You'll be able to create your own customized smoking experience with the right accessories such as a quality humidor, a cigar lighter, and the cigar cutter of your choice.
