Of course, the original versions of the sky lantern did pose a fire hazard. How could they not? An actual burning wax candle was placed inside them prior to sending them off into the wild blue yonder. When they landed, the brought with them a tremendous fire hazard. Those interested in purchasing modern versions of these lanterns need not be too concerned. Burning candles are no longer the source of the illumination.

Modern Chinese lanterns can be found on display in all manner of festivals in China. The modern designs of the lanterns can be considered a tribute to the ancient past when these lanterns were effectively used for the security of the nation. And besides, these lanterns are a lot of fun to watch!
