I just saw an ad today for a "Closet Company" offering Home Theater Design. A Closet Company?
C'mon give me a break. What's next "Joe the Plumber Home Theater"?
To those of us who have dedicated our careers to audio video technology, room acoustics and sound this is the cause of much frustration and concern.
Having a business card that says "Home Theater"/ "Home Automation", does not make someone an expert.
I have been involved in the field for many years and I have had the great pleasure of experiencing many quality projects.
Unfortunately I also have seen my share of disasters. Advanced knowledge is the key to achieving a quality theater room. It seems there is no end to the tremendous amount of misinformation generated and regenerated by the consumer electronics industry and "audio-video systems designers".
It seems like every electrician, security, phone, closet, and who knows company is offering "Home Theater".find it amazing at how many sales associates having no knowledge of proper theater and automation design fundamentals consider themselves qualified to design home automation, sound and video systems.
Make sure the person designing yours possesses sufficient knowledge and expertise to deliver. Mistakes cost money, sometimes big money.
I know this may come off somewhat negative. I stay away from commenting on someone's business. But based upon my many conversations with clients this issue seems to be the truth across many fields and professions. I also tire of this "political correctness" that seems to have us all afraid to speak our opinions. You will not find it here on my page. I will speak my mind. If you disagree that's fine. I encourage debate and the exchange of knowledge and ideas.
Knowledge is the only protection we as a society have to protect ourselves from the unqualified in any field.
Learning the basics will save you many thousands of dollars. It will also save you from the pitfalls that await the unknowing and trusting.
