subject: Escaping a Predators Bear Hug, The Essential Move [print this page]
From time to time I like to pass on an effective self defense technique that could possibly help you to escape a dangerous or life threatening situation. Today I would like to discuss "THE BEAR HUG." This of course, is when someone comes up behind you and wraps both arms around you tightly.
A Predator will often use this type of move to surprise and subdue a victim and as you know, it is very difficult to escape from. Women are generally not as strong as men and as a result, are more vulnerable and helpless in this situation. Here is a technique that will level the playing field for you.
First, You must be absolutely convinced that this person is actually intent on doing you harm, I say this because this technique is quite devastating and you wouldn't want to accidentally do it to someone who is just clowning around. If so, I want you to visualize the person applying the bear hug from behind you. I want you to bring one of your knees up and place the bottom of your foot on his knee cap. Once your foot is settled firmly on his knee, proceed then in a swift motion, push straight back with all your might!
This simple move will more than likely break his knee and he will release you. I know that many of you are probably squeamish at the prospect of doing something like this but remember......Your life is on the line at this point!
This technique absolutely works and is considered a life saving move. I suggest that you practice it with a partner until you feel comfortable with the motion...of course, stop at the point of actually pushing the knee back. Remembering this valuable technique could someday save your life!
