subject: Using Phone Scripts For Massive Success [print this page] The subject of using scripts is a controversial one. There are some marketers who are completely against them while there are others who live by them. But using scripts when prospecting or following up can be very beneficial and actually fun...when used properly.
The key is to keep in mind that scripts are not an "end all/be all" but rather are merely a framework and that you must add your own personality to them to keep from sounding...scripted.
My team members and I have been using phone scripts successfully and here are a few tips that I've picked up along the way:
Practice - No matter who or where you get your scripts from, it is pertinent that you practice/rehearse them so that you get a feel for how you should sound and can tweak where needed. You can practice with fellow teammates, your spouse, your kids or your friends.
Relax - I know first-hand how intimidating calling prospects and leads on the phone can be, ESPECIALLY when you're new to it. You get that feeling of nervousness in your belly. But try to relax! Before picking up the phone, think about something that makes you happy and at the same time, posture yourself in such a way that you are in control - that you have something of value to OFFER, not beg someone to get involved with.
Be Natural - Once again, you don't want to sound like you're reading (even if you are) but you want to sound normal and allow it to flow naturally.
Listen - One of the worst things you can do is to ask questions based on the phone script you're using yet, not be listening to your prospect and the responses they're giving but instead, you're TOO focused on what you're saying and what you will or should say next instead of attentively listening and then responding accordingly.
Following the suggestions given should help you to have much better results when you are calling your leads and prospects back to follow up and or seal the deal!
