subject: Where to place tropical fish tanks [print this page]

Placement of the tropical fish tanks is very very important. Think it deeply before deciding where to put it because a fully set up tank is very heavy and you won't be able to move it and even if you do you will mess up things inside.

Here are a few tips on it that may help you:

1. Placement

Don't place a tank near a window or in the reach of heavy sunlight. It will be hard to admire your aquarium but the real reason that you don't want to do that is that you will constantly fight algae (lost cause) and there will be a high variance of temperature inside your tank. You don't want your fish to boil in 40 degrees Celsius (100 F) water. Also, stay away from heaters.

2. Consider weight

You must also consider that fully equipped aquarium with water weights very much, for larger tanks you may even want to check the construction plans to see if your floor can handle it. For smaller ones you just want to make sure that you have a solid cabin ( specially made for aquariums is recommended). And make sure that the place when you want your aquarium is perfectly leveled, otherwise it will look bad and may cause an overflow.

3. Traffic

It is best to choose a place where there will be a moderate amount of people passing by, you don't want your fish to be frightened by large traffic but at the same time you want to accustom them to people.

4. Safety

Make sure that your aquarium is standing in a place where you won't be able to accidentally unplug a device such as filter, by the time you realize what happened it can cause a serious damage to biological stability inside your tank. Therefore it is recommended to choose a place in a corner or one that don't receive lots of human traffic.
