subject: Horse Racing Books, eBooks, and How to Improve Your Handicapping [print this page] The old saying, knowledge is power is certainly true and no where is it more obvious than at the race track. Trying to handicap horse races and make money off your bets is difficult enough, but imagine trying it without good information? So maybe it isn't just knowledge that is power, but information is also power, in fact, the best way to say it might be that information converted into knowledge is power.
Without a source of past performances or other handicapping material, all the knowledge of horse racing in the world won't do you any good. On the other hand, if you have good past performances and speed sheets and a ton of information, it won't do you any good unless you know how to use that information.
Good horse racing books and eBooks about horse racing handicapping teach you how to take that information and use it to find good priced winners. You still have to figure out how to do that, however. No book is going to automatically make you a winner. It would be nice if they could, but then again, every person who read a book would be a winner and soon there would be no losers. That wouldn't work.
So the key to success betting horses is to read some good books by authors who are known for their expertise and then to use the information they recommend. Several top authors come to mind whenever you talk about handicapping. Their books sell well so you would think that the people who read them would be winning, but that isn't always the case, because, like I said, it depends upon how you use their information.
My advice is to read as many of those books as you can and at the end of each book, write down what you think the key points were that the author tried to make. It may all wind up just being about 5 sentences, believe it or not. But those 5 key points added to the points from the next book you read and then the next will begin to be a handicapping method of your own. While no single author can make you profitable, putting the top writers together and boiling it all down to a method you can understand and stick with, will certainly put you on the right track.
