Franschhoek is known as the culinary capital of South Africa, with many award winning restaurants to choose from. Grande Provence is considered one of the finest of the Franschhoek restaurants and has won many awards to demonstrate this.

The Grande Provence offers 47 acres of vineyards, which also produce some of the best Franschhoek wines. While the 18th century manor house and owner's cottage reflect the French Huguenot heritage of the farm, the restaurant and wine tasting area are decorated in a chic industrial style. This Franschhoek restaurant includes galvanized metals and steel joinery, giving guests a sense of the working farm environment. This style is contrasted with traditional high backed chairs upholstered in white leather; these in turn are complimented by deep, slotted windows which frame the picturesque view of the surroundings.

The tasting room is also decorated in a style not expected from a Franschhoek restaurant, here the bar is situated unusually in the center of the room, it is finished in galvanized steel and black strapping and is surrounded by tractor seat bar stools. The tasting room also comprises of upholstered chairs and a large fireplace, allowing guests to enjoy their Franschhoek wines in elegant comfort.

The signature dishes of this particular, award winning Franschhoek restaurant are designed to be fresh, honest and innovative. The Chef makes use of local fare but is flavored with global influences, with the use of spices and cooking methods.

Unlike other Franschhoek restaurants, Grande Provence does not conform to the typical order of eating a meal, rules about when to eat the starter, main course and dessert do not apply and guests may choose any combination of food in any order of courses.

Each menu is served with Amuse Boche and a palette cleanser which the chef fits into the menu, according to the dishes ordered. The staff will of course assist with wine recommendations.
