subject: Trend forecast for design [print this page]

According to trend forecaster Li Edelkoort, we are on the brink of a new change of collective consciousness which will in turn reflect in new trends of architecture and design. She says that the greatest change in our thinking will be a desire to connect with the natural world, almost in a spiritual way and this will influence how we build, how we dress and of course how we decorate our Cape Town luxury apartments.

Li predicts that much of our architecture will reinterpret our desire to connect with the natural world through biomimicry, our accommodation Cape Town South Africa as we know it will go through a transformation, we will begin to build Capetown apartments that resemble natural structures. For example, lightweight constructions, woven from wood and bamboo, resembling weavers nests will be our new houses. She suggests that humans may even take to the trees as an alternative habitat.

Buildings will not only reflect their environment, as has been a common trend in the last ten years, but will be built from the earth, mud and stone in the area as a form of climate wise building.

Many a Cape Town luxury apartment will incorporate landscaping where the inside and outside are less defined. Wood will not only be the structure out of which the house is made but will also inspire the interior design in the form of colours, textures and patterns.

Cladding systems made from metals and organic shapes inspired by armadillo's, snails and hermit crabs will become a popular dcor feature in the near future.

Other animals will inspire us too, such as spiders and other insects. Who will influence us to create new textures and structural systems and fabrics will be diaphanous, like gossamer and we should expect much layering both in home dcor and in fashion design.
