subject: Gameness GI [print this page] Since the inception of martial arts, proper clothing was almost like a ritual. It is still followed the way our ancestors designed and wore them but now are under some rules as these have become more of sports. Now when an art gets the honor of being a sport, there obviously have to be some rules to follow and even the clothing is not spared.
Gameness has been in this GI making business for many years and has been a pioneer of superbly crafted BJJ GI uniforms. It is brand which is reckoned in the BJJ world. It follows all the guidelines as laid down by the IBJJF and has been a supplier of the same in international tournaments the world over. The cotton used is of superior quality and is tested over and over again to ensure that the stitches are in place. It has to survive the rigors of fighting and grappling!
When considering the BJJ GI or the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu GI, there are rules framed and laid down by the IBJJF or the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation which are as follows.
The article 8 has these rules enlisted and documented and this part of the rule book only refers to the clothing:
The main fiber for the GI uniform preparation has to be cotton. Similar materials, other than cotton were used earlier but now they have been discontinued.
The federation also lays down rules on the hardness' of joints (read: flexibility). It states that the stitching and the folds cannot be made too hard; that would obstruct the movement of the opponent fighter and also might protect' the party wearing it. Interestingly, it has happened so in the past that the fighters having a thick and hard stitch at the corners of their GI had advantage when grappling was considered; hence this rule.
The official measurement of the length of the sleeves is taken from the shoulder to the waist. The rulebook states the length to just reach the waist and cannot be shorter or longer in any case. The jacket as a whole has to just cover the waist and down to the thighs and not more.
Even the belts are under regulations! The belt width must be no more than 4-5 cm and must be tied around the waist using a double knot. The player must ensure that the GI is secure.
The GI must be of set standard colors; however exceptions might be made for the team colors.
Gameness is a manufacturer of great GI clothing and uniform and also makes uniforms for MMA or Mixed Martial Arts. However, the recent martial arts clothing manufacturing arena is replete with competition from around the world. Gameness might have registered growth in sales but it is not as much as it could have, had there been a monopoly of the same! Economics and business apart, this is one brand of clothing that experts swear by. Now, it is for the winners to take a stance!
