subject: Fishing Lures For Walleye Fishing In The Fall [print this page]

Walleye fishing is the most exciting type of freshwater fishing that is done in fresh water. They put up a great fight and can grow to some really nice sizes. One of the best times for walleye fishing is in the fall. The chillier weather can mean having to use different strategies and lures to get the job done.

Those who are looking at fishing in the fall may want to know what type of lures that are going to land the big walleyes. The following are the most popular five fishing lures for walleye fishing in the fall.

1. The Weed Master Jig - This is a great jig for catching walleye anytime of the year but particularly in the fall. Using this jig can help to catch the walleye in the fall that are staying warm in the weeds and logs at the edges of the lakes. A weed master can run through these areas without as much chance of snagging as other jigs of the same type can. If is snag does occur, it is much easier to break it free as well.

This lure also makes it easier for the fish to inhale it without spitting it out. It is weighted evenly so that the fish are not even going to know it is there until it is too late for them. The strikes are going to be hard and fast so be prepared!

2. Spinning Rigs - Spinning rigs are great for getting the attention of the fish. When coupled with plastic worms or live bait such as leeches, they can be effective for getting the walleyes that are more lethargic as it gets closer to winter time and the water is beginning to get colder. These come in many different colors, when one color is not working, try a different color until you get the results that you want. Those results are going to mean a lot of tasty walleye for your freezer.

3. Bottom Bouncers/Walkers - The great thing about these types of lures is that they come in a wide variety of weights to fit the needs of the lake that you are fishing in. Many walleye are going to be found at bottom level, particularly when the water begins to get cold. These can be used along withlive baits such as leeches, minnow or night crawlers which the walleye love to strike on. The bottom bouncers/walkers make it easier for the fish to be able to strike on your baits.
