subject: Secrets To Try Walleye Fishing On Greenwood Lake [print this page]

Greenwood Lake is a natural lake that is stocked with largemouth and smallmouth bass as well as other popular pan fish such as walleye. There are also large trophy fish by way of the muskie. Catfish populations are growing and there is some really good fishing on Greenwood Lake. One of the tastiest of all of the fish that can be found on Greenwood Lake is the walleye. While most people are fishing for the large and small mouth bass, which are a catch and release fish, the walleye are being left mostly alone. This means that they are ripe for your hook and line. The following three secrets are going to help those who want to land some great sized, great tasting walleye to find and catch them more easily.

1. Fish at the Right Time with the Right Equipment - During the spawning season of March 1st until April 30th, there is no fishing of walleye unless it is catch and release. Any other time of the year is going to be great walleye fishing. The best time of day for this tasty fish is early morning and when the sun is going down in the evening. The actual time is when the sun is rising and when the sun is setting. Anglers can still find the walleyes in deeper water when the sun is up as long as they are using the right equipment.

Trolling is a great way to find the walleyes when it is bright out. Using a fish finder along with trolling equipment can mean finding and bringing in the walleye much more of a possibility. The fishing equipment needed for this time of day is sinking lures along with light lines and bait. When fishing in the early morning or at dusk, a bobber with some live bait is all that is needed.

2. Use the Right Bait - When fishing for walleye, the best bait is live bait. The fish are going to be looking for other fish to eat so why offer them a worm or a leech? Shiners are a great minnow for catching the walleye. They can be seen and give off enough odor to attract some of the larger walleye in Greenwood Lake. Those who fish for walleye swear by the shiner. As well as shiners, great live bait for walleye is the herring. This is live bait that can be used with a bobber. Those who prefer to shore fish, or who do not have a boat for fishing can still find some good sized walleye closer to the shore using herring.
