The sleek design of the iPod with simple feel of the user system has made the iPod the most popular MP3 player in the world. Other designs by Creative and Microsoft just haven't been able to compete with Apple's iPod. The iPod popularity may be do to the marketing campaign by Apple or just the fact that Apple products seem to be cool to own. The iPod certainly has become indispensable for many people. Running, jogging, hiking or working out without an iPod just seems boring for many people. New plug ins, accessories and devices for connecting to the iPod appear to make the unit a continued superstar for the future.

The iPod is an electronic device and just like any electronic device it will have problems that can be frustrating. Just like computers, iPods sometimes crash, freeze up, or just start behaving badly. There can be many reasons for the errors the iPod may generate. Some of the solutions to the errors can be simple but some of them may require that you have your iPod sent to a professional iPod repair service center. Before you do that let's look at a couple of quick and easy trouble shooting ideas that may prevent you from needing the repair service. Try these 3 ideas before you do anything else.

Charging

If your iPod is not charging it could be a battery or logic board issue. It may also be a simple problem with the charging cord and the computer you are using to charge the iPod. Buy a wall charger for the iPod. Sometimes a wall charger will charge the unit when your computer just will not.

Resetting an iPod

If you are not having a power problem then the next step is to try and rest the iPod. To reset your iPod (this won't delete your music) hold down the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears. You may have to hold the buttons down for ten to fifteen seconds before the logo pops up. After the reset the iPod should just start up again without any errors. If you continue to have errors you may have more serious problems.

Updating and restoring

If the reset does not fix the problem then the next step is try and restore your iPod. Before you start make sure that you have all your music, videos, pictures and any other media files downloaded from your iPod to iTunes. The restore will wipe out all the files on your iPod. To restore your iPod connect it to your computer and go to iTunes. On the iTunes page select the Restore button. iTunes will start downloading the restore software to your iPod. This process may take a few minutes. You will know when the process is complete when the iPod is asking what language you want to use. The iPod has been restored to its original factory settings just like when you pulled it out of the box for the first time. Download your music and see how it works.
