subject: Canonical announces plans for Ubuntu Mobile [print this page]
Canonical posted some information and some pictures of Ubuntu Mobile version of the popular Linux distribution for for mobile computers with Intels Silverthorne processor as the Samsung Ultra Q1U. We know for a moment, that Ubuntu Mobile was in the works , but it looks like the operating system is getting closer to an official release. The source code is available now, but I do not recommend installing it to use the unit regularly, unless youre willing to risk deleting all data.
Ubuntu Mobile will include support for touch screen and large icons so you can move your fingers and no stylus. The interface is designed for 4.8-inch by 7-inch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels to 1024 x 768 pixels. Default web browser is based on Firefox, and supports Flash 9, Java, and almost everything you need to access modern web sites.
Some of the proposals will include:
Skype-enabled video Audio and Video e-mail client with support for POP and IMAP RSS reader PIM software
You can verify sample pictures some applications, but there is a chance the application interface could be redesigned before the final release.
