subject: Do You Apologize Too Much? How To Stop Apologizing All The Time [print this page]

"I'm sorry." "I shouldn't have said that." You know that you're always apologizing for things regardless of whether or not you're actually to blame. Your friends and colleagues know this as well, so they let you willingly take the role of scapegoat. So, how do you stop yourself from apologizing too much?

Think before you apologize

Take a few milliseconds to think before you open your mouth to utter yet another apology. Was it really your fault? Or is it just the easiest option to be the fall guy even though you had nothing to do with whatever it was you are about to apologize for.

Wear a rubber band round your wrist

Not one of those charity bands but a real one. Then snap it when you catch yourself about to say that you're sorry for something that doesn't need an apology in the first place. The short, sharp shock will act as a cheap form of aversion therapy and will train you to think twice before you mutter those sad words "I'm sorry".

Grow a pair

Sorry to be so bold. But sometimes we're just too apologetic and need to mentally grow a part of the male anatomy to help us stop apologising left, right and center. Stand up for yourself more often. Start with the smaller things in life so that you get used to it and work your way up. That way your new, less apologetic personality will start to come to the fore and before you know it you'll have changed for the better and will stop apologizing at the slightest opportunity.
