1) Get some copper strips. Cut them and clean them. Also remember to clean your hands thoroughly as any trace of grease can hamper the project.

3) Let it heat till the color of the strip turns pink, purple and red. The beautiful mixtures of colors indeed make for a pretty sight. However, this sight is short lived and the strip soon begins to turn black. Cook it on the burner till the strip is pitch-black.
4) Turn the heat off and let the strip cool. Do not remove it from the burner till it has completely cooled down (room temperature). This process usually takes about 20 minutes.
5) Once cooled, the black particles (which are sediments of cupric oxide) will begin to peel off. Hold the strip against running water and scrub off the cupric oxide with your hands. 6) Place this oxidized strip and a clean copper strip side by side in a glass or plastic container. The two must face each other but not be in contact.
7) With the help of an alligator clip, link the clean strip to the positive terminal of an ampere meter. Do the same for the oxidized strip, but this time link it to the negative terminal of the meter.
8) Next, mix some salt and hot water and pour it into the container. It must submerge a part of the copper strips but should not come in contact with the clips.
9) Leave the entire kit outdoors, where there is ample sunshine.
10) Observe the meter and you will notice that electricity is being generated.
