The extremely rare hot water bottle, still with its original tin canister intact, was made in the UK between 1907-1914 and stands at 50cm tall, with black boot button eyes and a laced front.
Great things were expected from the cuddly bear, which once belonged to a Mrs Vernon-Pegge, however little demand meant that the makers discontinued the line having only made 90 examples. Mrs Vernon-Pegge, sadly passed away in 1993 and the bear was later auctioned off by Christie's in December 2006.
The Steiff Teddy Bear is set to go under the hammer 13th October 2010 in Christies London, South Kensington.
