subject: Expand your Mafia Wars family in three simple steps [print this page]

To reach the very top of Mafia Wars, you need to be succesful in a number of areas of the game but very few of those areas are as important as starting and growing your own mafia. Without a strong team behind you, you're going to very find it very hard to complete the necessary jobs or get your hands on the resources that you need to become a true Godfather.

On top of that, without a strong mafia you'll find yourself being bullied by your competitors a lot more often. Your business won't be able to grow as quickly as you'd like and your properties are more likely to be burgled.

So how do you go about growing a mafia that will not only defend your own interests, but strike fear into the heart of your opponents?

Well, below are three simple tips to help your swell ranks. All of them are easy to master and won't cost you a single Godfather point.

1. Get networking

Most people are registered with at least one social network like MySpace of Facebook - in fact over 25m are now playing the game on Facebook alone. If you have an account at any of these sites, then make the most of it.

You've probably got a couple of hundred friends who may well be crying out to join your army. So get in touch with - send an email out to all of your friends (possibly leaving out any ex-girlfriends and current bosses!) inviting them to join the game.

In my experience, the vast majority of them will sign up, if only to see what the game is like. And the best news is that once they accept your offer, your mafia will then appear on their news feed in front of a whole lot more people that you didn't even know about.

Social Media is a huge weapon in your fight to become a Godfather, so make sure you use it effectively.

2. Forums

After Social Media, your next port of call should be a relevant forum. Just typing "Mafia Wars Forum" into Google will give you a whole list of sites that are dedicated to the game. Register at a few of them and start chatting with the people there.

Not only are you likely to pick up some new strategy pointers, but this is a prime way making new connections who you can later invite to join your mafia. You don't need to become best friends or anything, but once you start chatting to people, an awful lot of them will happily exchange mafia memberships.

3. Blogs and other websites

A lot of people today own their own website or blog. If that's you, then make the most of it and get posting about Mafia Wars. A short article on a blog or a few brief paragraphs on a website explaining why you need new family members can be very succesful.

If you don't own your own blog, then never fear. Head over to somwhere like CraigsList or Gumtree and post up a few free ads. While this isn't always as effective as some of the earlier suggestions, it can yield a small number of players who are happy to join you.

The internet is such a vast place that it provides many different ways of getting your message out for no cost what so ever. Players who dedicate a bit of time and effort into making the most of these resources should find that they're able to boost their Mafia membership quite signficantly in just a few short weeks.

And once you get that momentum, you'll find yourself climbing the ranks of the game very quickly.
